Electrodermal Screening and Meridian Balance

The equipment we use in our office is MSA Professional from Biomeridian and IQS from I2I network. Both are computerized electrodermal screening (EDS) devices. Electrodemral testing (Bioenergetic testing) came a long way since Dr. Voll developed his protocol called Electroacupuncture According to Voll (EAV) many decades ago. He combined traditional Chinese acupuncture theory and Western technology and developed a testing protocol for meridians. He also added eight extra meridians to traditional Chinese theory and renamed those meridians with physiological terms. He evaluates meridian energy through a device testing skin conductivity around acupuncture points. Skin conductivity changes is believed to be one of the few physiological evidences for acupuncture points. His early work is the bases for all later development of electrodermal testing techniques. All modern equipment includes a testing device based on EAV plus computer interface with a database. With the machine we are able to do the followings: meridian balance testing, remedy testing and sensitivity testing. Meridian balance testing is a protocol to detect energy changes within each meridian. The test determines whether the energy is under stress (blocked) or weakened. Based on Chinese theory the energy in each meridian has to be balanced so that the healing ability in the body is optimal.

Remedy testing is one of the most interesting functions for EAV. For example, a patient having a cold often shows a stressed Lung meridian. To determine if the common cold herbal formula help the patient or not, we let the patient hold the remedy and test the Lung meridian again. If the Lung meridian reading reaches normal balance, the remedy is the right one to take. The modern computerized EDS device uses its remedy database and is able to scan for the right remedy without patient’s holding the real one.

Sensitivity testing is a function of EAV opposite to remedy testing. If the body does not agree with a substance, the balanced point becomes imbalance while the patient is holding that substance. We believe that the substance may cause energetic conflicts in the body, so the reading changes accordingly. This function can be used to identify allergies and internal blockages. With this function and a well designed testing protocol, we are able to pinpoint the root problems for the body and help the body recover faster.

Computerized EDS device uses special language to communicate with the body through electric signals. This technology uses computer database and allows practitioners to test many substances without using the real thing. Through communication with the body, we are able to obtain lots of information about the blockages, imbalance and sensitivities of the body as well as remedies that may help. The MSA Pro, which is the device we use, has a huge database containing more than 40,000 materials and remedies. It makes the testing much easier.

Meridian Balance

Based on traditional Chinese theory, energy has to be balanced and flow evenly inside each meridian. Blockages and uneven flow of the energy may result in malfunction of the associated organ and tissue, and in turn cause low healing ability. Therefore, maintaining meridian balance is the major goal of traditional Chinese medicine. 

The possible causes for energy blockages in meridians include energy factors and physical factors:

The above factors are often interacted with each other and there is seldom only one or two factors causing meridian blockage. Meridian balance process involves to identify possible causes for the blockage and help the body achieve the balance again by solving the problems. Computerized EDS testing helps to identify the hidden problems and make the balance process much easier.
